It was founded by a group of artists, but the two artists that stood out was Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg. The De stjil movement was about a Utopian perception of spiritual harmony. It was an advocate of pure abstraction. the paintings were purely abstract, but the point of emphasis that separated this from cubism is that there is this kind universalized reduction to just the essentials of form and color.
