Art Nouveau
Alphonse Mucha,1897, Buscuit Lefevre -Utile
The Art Nouveau movement had abandoned historical styles in the early 1800's. Art Nouveau, used new materials and styles to capture objects. Art Nouveau aimed to modernize design. Art Nouveau artists did not want a distinction between arts and crafts, instead they wanted to fuse both styles. Old methods with the new. using new techniques to make their work better. Better quality. A lot of artists were influenced by Japanisme. The use of organic forms, where they referenced from nature. The use of flat colours with no 3 dimensional techniques. There was also a strong use of pattern. At the end of the century an artist named Alphonse Mucha, drew from both organic and geometric forms. Artists at this period wanted to incorporate nature and machine. The imagine above by Mucha shows influence of japanisme and showed dominate line work. Like in most art nouveau artwork women were mostly used because of their of their soft curves to their body. Women are gentle and they also represented mother nature, which is perfect for the art style they were going for her.
